Great Programs at Banner
Elementary
ACADEMIC
EXCELLENCE
Banner
Elementary is firmly committed to taking our students from learners to
leaders. Our curriculum includes a phonics-based reading program,
mathematics, science projects and history. Students learn through review
games and enhanced classroom activities. They also participate in art,
music, physical education and computer classes each week. Contests,
competitions and the development of critical thinking skills foster
self-esteem and a sense of accomplishment. (See
2007 SAT Results)
COMPUTER LAB
The
computer lab “ZIP Drives” our students at Banner into the future. Our
computer program features an opportunity to improve basic skills and to
encourage creativity using graphics and writing programs to prepare
students to work in the computer world of the future.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
An
active body is an important part of a student’s development. Our
physical education classes include games that promote motor and social
skills as well. Teamwork is emphasized in games like kickball,
Alaskan baseball, volleyball etc. Jumping rope, hopscotch, basketball, races and other traditional
children’s activities are encouraged to round out the fun activities
available for our students throughout the day. The up-to-date playground
facilities encourage movement and social interaction.
ANNUAL MUSICAL
The
annual all-school musical is one of the highlights of the year. Sixth
grade students look forward to their turn at the speaking roles. The
other grades provide the rich and full background chorale that leaves
audiences humming and smiling. Children shine at Banner!
DAYCARE
Today’s
busy parents often need a helping hand when it comes to caring for their
children. Our safe and well-managed daycare program allows parents to
drop children at school as early as 7:00am in order to get to work on
time. After-school daycare is provided until 6:00pm. Even on some days
when there is no school the Cub Club is available for children to play
games, enjoy crafts and spend time with school friends under the
direction of caring and familiar teachers. Grizzly Good Times is
Banner’s summer daycare program that can be utilized on a full-time or
part-time basis.
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
Banner
Elementary is an independent Christian school, meaning we are not
affiliated with any church or denomination. Children are taught Bible
lessons each day as part of the curriculum. Weekly chapel programs often
feature guest speakers who enhance these lessons with stories, special
skills and demonstrations. Teachers are highly aware of their role as
models and inspirations to their students.
BANNER BEARS SAY, "WE LOVE
THIS PLACE!"
As
much as it is in our power, we strive to make childhood fun for our
students. All-school contests, fun dress up days, skating parties and
the annual Banner Bear Parade bring a sense of whimsy and create fond
memories for our students. Whether it is Silly Sock Day, Pajama Day or
Fun Day, the whole school gets to be a little zany. Songs, cheers,
banners and of course, bears add up to a school-spirit day that rivals
any when Banner Bear Day is celebrated.
